it's humbling when your parents confide shit in you.
i'm one of those children who puts their parents on a pedestal. the highest pedestal ever. i'm not ashamed of this. because i know that my parents are the best parents i could ask for. through good and bad, highs and lows.
i have a lot of small fears. fears that shouldn't be fears at all. like, you know, my fear of lightning bugs. those things scare the shit out of me.
but my biggest fear in life is that i can't protect my parents from harm, danger, etc. it's like...i don't know how to describe the feeling. the best way i can say it is that the same feeling parents have that they can't shield their children from pain & suffering is the same way i feel about my parents. i hate to see my parents sad, frustrated, cry, whatever. it's partially because of the pedestal i put them on, because i think of them as superheroes (because in my mind, they are), and also because i can't save them from their pain.
i try not to take my parents for granted. i cherish moments i have with my mom when she's attempting to teach me to cook and we end up talking about her life in haiti, and i adore the moments like yesterday when i sat on the front step with my pops for almost an hour just...talking.
when i kiss my mom and lick her face, it's not just something to be nasty -- it's something between us.
the fact that i can walk in the house and yell 'what up, homie' or 'what it do?!' to my pops & slap him a high five rather than give him a bisou is cool to me, because i'm sure others can't.
the older i get, man, it's like the more love & respect i gain for my parents. because they are the shit. my parents and also my 2nd set of parents, too.
i just wanted to put that out there.
