enough of the pleasantries, let's get to it.
May was a dope month. i don't remember what happened that first weekend, but the second weekend really kicked the month off for me. May 7 kicked off my commencement weekend!
*doJo's note: shoutout & big thanks to everyone who documented graduation weekend. my camera died that night at the AAAN graduation & my charger was at my place of employment [don't ask]. so none of these pictures are mine. LMAO.*May 7 was the AAAN Convocation.
Pops, Myself & Mom Dukes(love this picture, btw. i think it was the FIRST time i realized just how much i look like my mommy)
i thought i was gonna miss this, btw. i was running extremely late. and while i was already running late, i impulsively thought "oh sh!t, my car is messy on the inside. lemme clean it up right quick."
WAIT. WHAT.
so i did that. lmao.but all in all, it was a good ceremony, especially because i could invite whomever the hell i wanted to for it. AAN Convocation = no tickets. ANYONE & EVERYONE CAN GO! so my peoples were deep.
afterwards were pictures & all that good stuff --
the white palace crew -- myself, shelena (who graduated from loyola a week later), and tanya.
me, in all my 'i just got punched in all of my body parts by the wind but i'm still tryna look put together & isht' GLORAY.
so, after that, the AFTERPARTY.well, before that, i had to change out of my dress for my afterparty attire, then i went to go get food with mayah (Beggar's Pizza ftw), and then we went to the afterparty spot...only to find out that the afterparty wouldn't start until the playoff games for both the blackhawks & basketball were over. o_O we weren't there that long. after we, mama & dory & my brothers & most of their frat brothers left THAT semi-fail, we went on a wild party chase lol. 2 spots later, we partied till like 2 or 3 or whatever. for free. it was fun. homies got slapped (not the physical violent kinda slapped). then we all helped when my broseph pulled a minor Kanye circa "Through the Wire" & then we all ended up at Maxwell's polish at the same time (LMAO not planned at all. i guess niggas get hongry at the same time #everydayb.)
the next day i don't remember what i did. prolly wasn't that important, though. i just remember knowing i had to be at the school for commencement before 9:30 but still being up at like 2 listening to all of Oddisee's Odd Seasons collection. (you should click on all of this highlighted goodness & peep those if you love good music.)
so, the next day was LAS Commencement. it was also MOTHER'S DAY. (so lowkey i really didn't have to get mom dukes anything haha).
this is the part where i get all sentimental & stuff, so lemme go put my thug somewhere for the following sentences.up to May 9, 2010, i'd been an alumnus of UIC for going on 5 months. my degree was conferred in December (whoop whoop.), but i'd been waiting for the day i got to swag surf & all that jazz across the stage. eff not walking, cuz straight up, that wasn't an option. and not only was i glad to be walking across the stage with my gatdamn degree, i was graduating with my best friend.
so i was all up in my emotions that day.OH. AND THANK GOD FOR TECHNOLOGY. I WAS LIVE-TWEETING THE WHOLE CEREMONY LMAO. myself along with like 4 of the homies i follow on twitter were all graduating that same day & we were all live-tweeting. how amazingly dope was that?!
just walking out. tanya got the memo. clearly i didn't.

no one knows what's going on except for me.
brainiac, dumb-dumb. got a degree, stupiiiidd (c) Naledge.
rawr.if you're wondering where are the pictures with my parents and other figureheads in my life, they took pictures on their own camera phones / digital cameras / disposable cameras, so i prolly won't see those 'til about 2012 (if the world doesn't end, of course). just being realistic. my moms still hasn't recharged the battery in her digital camera from when my brother graduated, and he graduated 2 years ago.
so. after all that madness, hugging folks, saying bye & blah blah blah, i returned a late library book (LOLOLOL) & then went home. parked my car in the garage and whaddayaknow, i left my house keys in the house. on top of that, i was the first person home (even though i was the last of my family to leave). i believe my tweet read something like
i was texting mofos on some "take your time comin' to the crib cuz no one's gonna open the door for you" type stuff for like 20 min. but eventually, family members came with keys, i could leave the garage, and set up for the joint grad party.
i was truly appreciative of all the texts, tweets (yo, twitter is THE SHIT), phone calls, cards, money (Lord knows i was broke), prayers, encouragement, everything that was sent to me (and my bestie tanya) that day. when we were making graduation speeches, i started getting teary-eyed. my thug almost hit the floor. my voice cracked, and i didn't care. you know why i didn't car? because that was 4.5 years of frustration, happiness, sadness, love, joy, happiness, etc. and it was my GAHTDAMN MOMENT SO WHATEVER. even later that night, my mom was saying to tanya that even she was surprised i almost started crying because i never cry or show emotion (lol). so yes, it was an important moment.
i was so damn tired that night. i fell asleep before 11. but man, that day was just a blessing.

guess who's currently chillin' in her garage because she left her keys in the house & no one's home yet? this graduate.
